Scouting locations for scenes in our stories has been unexpectedly fun. Early in the writing partnership with Silbrith, I described the need for a cabin in upstate New York, and she found the perfect spot. It’s a cabin owned by Peter’s relatives, and was introduced in Caffrey Flashback. As the characters prepared to leave the cabin, Neal echoed my wishes when he said he’d like to return someday.
Silbrith made our wishes come true when she sent Neal and several other characters to the cabin for Halloween in The Woman in Blue, with results that were at times hilarious but also poignant.
In the last few months it occurred to me that Neal Caffrey has probably never had a real spring break. That thought had his cousin Angela hopping with eagerness to plan something. The end result is the vignette I’ll post in a few days. I considered other locations, but the cabin won out. Not only is it a beautiful setting, but it also enabled a mystery. Even for spring break, these characters love a mystery.
I’d intended to cover both spring break and Neal’s birthday in a single story, but they started to feel like two separate stories. Therefore I’ll publish Caffrey Vignettes chapter 1 – Spring Break in a few days, and chapter 2 will follow a few weeks later with Neal’s birthday.
