Supernatural Beings
- Astrena: Queen of the Stars. The Greek goddess of witches and vampires. At the beginning of the series, she maintained a cover identity of Electra Stavrou, owner of the Elysian Bookstore in New Haven, Connecticut. Although not a vampire, she's able to establish links to mortals by drinking their blood. Astrena can enter the minds of her victims psychically and feed on the creative energy inside. She relies on vampires to harvest blood.
- Astrena's Handmaidens: Three "sisters" are known to exist. Maia Stavrou is a graduate student in Classics at Yale University, Gemma Blackthorne teaches botany in England, and Alcyone (Alcy) Lancaster, after an unfortunate incident in Windsor, Connecticut, resides in Venice. The sisters have been elevated by Astrena to be demi-goddesses. In Night Howls on the Hudson, Maia broke her link with Astrena and became mortal once more. In Columbia Ghost Story, Astrena erased Maia's memories of her life as a demi-goddess. In A Witch in Venice Alcyone's time on Earth seemingly ended. In Glass Angels, Astrena was unmasked and banished back to the stars.
- Thanatos: Astrena's younger brother. Ruler of Oblivion, the underworld of vampires, witches, and vengeful spirits. Thanatos lived in the upperworld for a brief period as Quint, a computer science student at Columbia University.
- Erebus: Primordial deity. God of darkness. Father of Astrena and Thanatos.
- Dolos: Cousin to Astrena and Thanatos. A trickster god. Close friend of Thanatos
- Crowley, King of Hell: A demon who currently possesses the body of Curtis Hagen, aka the Dutchman
- Vampires: Two types of vampires exist. Ordinary vampires, also known as thralls, were once human. They supply Astrena and her sisters with blood samples but are held in low regard by them. Pure-bloods are vampires created by Astrena in a ritual known as the anistemi. (See Fireflies at Midnight for details.) They are more powerful than ordinary vampires, but the full extent of their abilities has not been documented.
- Scarbo: Small demon who serves Astrena by tormenting victims who resist her.

- Whispers in the Night: April 2005. Buttonwood, New Jersey. Neal and Peter meet Dean and Sam for the first time. A nocnitsa has cast a curse that turns adult men into dorks. Peter, Mozzie, and Dean become afflicted. Neal and Sam are kidnapped by vampires who extract samples of their blood and deliver it to a pair of supernatural sisters, Electra and Maia. After sampling the blood, Electra decides to make Neal her chosen one, while Maia targets Sam, but what that signifies is not revealed. Dean hooks up with a young writer named Chloe Bishop who is researching witches for an urban fantasy novel. Whispers in the Night Pinterest board
- Witches' Sabbath: May 2005. Dean and Sam help Peter and Neal locate Curtis Hagen, who vanished from a New York City prison. His escape was apparently facilitated by a witch. They track him to Windsor, Connecticut, where he is being held by the witch Alcy Lancaster, and are unable to prevent him from being possessed by the demon Crowley. Chloe has become a member of a Wiccan coven. Her knowledge of herbs once more proves useful. At the end of the story, Crowley is revealed to be working with Electra and her sisters. - Fireflies at Midnight: June 2005. Electra creates a new generation of pure-blood vampires during an anistemi ritual held at the summer solstice in Jenny Jump State Forest in New Jersey. Neal and Sam meet Electra and Maia for the first time. Electra takes an interest in Elizabeth and Mozzie's girlfriend Janet. Maia and Chloe have now become friends. A connection between Wicca and the sisters is alluded to, but how the sisters are taking advantage of Wiccans is not known. Bobby, a veteran hunter and close friend to Dean and Sam, sets up shop in New Jersey and helps on the case. - Dark Rabbit: August 2005. Neal and Peter join forces with Sam and Dean in Shepherdstown, West Virginia when Neal receives disturbing news about his cousin Angela. She's been targeted by a pure-blood vampire named Lutar. With the help of her boyfriend Michael, they're able to rescue her. Meanwhile, Maia has stopped drinking blood to avoid Sam becoming suspicious of her. As a result, her former personality is resurfacing. Maia was abducted from her family in Ireland when she was a teenager by Electra. Her parents were druids. Maia's love for Sam and innate loyalty to her clan cause her to form an alliance with Crowley to protect not only Sam, but also Dean, Chloe, and—through twisted logic—Neal and Peter as well. Electra's jealousy becomes increasingly dangerous. She makes Bianka sick. Later she nearly kills Neal when she thinks he stabbed Lutar. Chloe's landlady in Manhattan, Peony, is a psychic. She's able to prove the psychic link Electra's established on Neal and Sam. Neal is unaware that the rock club Riffs is run by another pure-blood, named Jeremy. Crowley and Jeremy manage an identity fraud operation out of the club. Crowley senses an opportunity when he discovers Maia also doesn't know about Jeremy. - Night Howls on the Hudson: September 2005. The proposed development of a marsh near Columbia University unleashes an ancient Native American spirit bent on retribution. Neal and Sam suffer the wrath of a goddess. Maia and Crowley persuade Electra to provide the funds to save the marsh, thus ending the threat from Weewillmeku. Maia joins forces with Chloe to develop a potion that severs the link with Electra. Maia also uses it on herself and becomes mortal. Maia and Chloe learn that they are distantly related. Electra's brother Thanatos is masquerading as a computer science student at Columbia while plotting revenge on Electra. Crowley frets that Henry is related to the Winchesters. - Columbia Ghost Story: October 2005. A ghost haunts the Columbia University campus at Halloween, and Mozzie discovers evidence of the Illuminati in New York City. Electra's brother Thanatos initiates his plan of revenge. Peter and El celebrate their anniversary in Connecticut while Neal and his college friends visit Electra in New Haven. - Night Music: December 2005. A night at the opera turns deadly as Neal and Peter become unwitting performers in an adaptation of Don Giovanni. Henry researches an ancestor who may be a missing link to the Winchesters. Crowley suspects Henry's company is a front for the Men of Letters and decides a change of venue is in order. - Glass Angels: January 2006. A sci-fi film project in New Haven leads to more than Neal and his friends bargained for when Electra attempts to ensnare them all. In the end, she's the one who is unmasked and banished back to the stars. At the conclusion of the story, Chloe and Maia take up residence in Electra's house and invite Dean, Sam, and Bobby to live there too.
