Klaus at the Crossroads

When I think of master art thief Klaus Mansfeld as The Musicians comes to an end, the song "Where Do We Go from Here?" from the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire-Slayer begins playing in my head. At the end of the story, Klaus is led away in handcuffs after having spent the past several days in intense soul-searching. Ever since The Woman in Blue, Klaus has been driven by the desire to have Neal become a member of his crew once more. But this past week he decided the price he was forcing Neal to pay was too high. As police stormed the castle, he was attempting to help Neal escape.

Warning for minor spoilers to The Musicians

Did Klaus give up on his dream? He appeared to believe that he and Neal would be able to work together once they escaped from Ydrus. His relationship with Rolf is open to various interpretations. Klaus shows signs of resentment as he begins to realize how his brother has manipulated him. If he had to choose between Neal and Rolf, who would it be?

Those are some of the questions I've been asking myself as I jot down ideas for what happens to Klaus in the future. Here are some other ones that have been following me around.

I tried to kill Klaus off, and it didn't work. Somehow I know this is not the last story he'll be featured in.
