A Throwback Holiday Treat

This year my holiday story is "Henry Takes a Holiday." When Silbrith and I played bunnyball with the concept during this summer's writing retreat, we envisioned a light-hearted caper with references to an old TV show: Remington Steele

"Henry Takes a Holiday" follows Silbrith's stories "Fashion Undertow" and "Thief in the Woods." After years of hinting at the idea, we finally moved Neal from being an employee of the FBI to working at his cousin's company: Winston-Winslow. The new job comes with several perks, like more flexible hours and working with Sara. However, there is a glaring issue: the two leaders of the office are constantly fighting. Can Neal and Sara bring peace?

Neal isn't the only one facing the challenges of a new job. Peter accepted a promotion to lead Manhattan's Organized Crime team, and the transition hasn't been fun.

Hmm. This isn't exactly sounding like a light-hearted caper, is it?

It turned into a story about admitting when things aren't great, and accepting the help of friends to address issues you can't fix on your own.

It sounds a lot like a lesson from a sitcom, doesn't it? With that inspiration in mind, I named each of the three chapters after a 1980's era TV show. I hope you'll enjoy this throwback holiday treat.
