In Arkham Files, White Collar characters are fused into the world of the Cthulhu Mythos as envisioned by H.P. Lovecraft and others. No prior knowledge of either White Collar or Lovecraft is required. Although Lovecraft is a master of the horror genre, in Arkham Files the emphasis is on science fiction and fantasy with a generous sprinkling of romance.

The series begins in 1975. Neal and Peter are professors at Miskatonic University, which is located in Arkham, Massachusetts. Peter's wife Elizabeth is a neurologist at the university's medical center. In Arkham Files, the first names are the same. Neal Caffrey is known as Neal Carter. Peter Burke is Peter Gilman. In addition to Neal and Peter, also included in the stories are Diana, Mozzie, Elizabeth, June, Sara, Jones, Hughes, and of course Satchmo. Neal and Sara are both a few years younger than their New York counterparts. See the Arkham Files Pinterest board for the full cast.

The series is a meta work with the stories referenced in Caffrey Conversation. It's not necessary to read Caffrey Conversation, but for those who do, there is an added dimension. In Caffrey Conversation, Agent Diana Berrigan began writing Arkham Files fics as part of a strategy to capture a cybercriminal nicknamed Azathoth. She is assisted by members of the Arkham Round Table, which include June (her beta editor), Mozzie, El, Tricia, Mozzie, and Jones. Travis serves as technical advisor and Richard assists with creature design. Events and characters in Arkham Files are sometimes referenced in the Caffrey Conversation stories and are a factor in plot development. Azathoth made his first appearance in The Woman in Blue. Diana's fics are mentioned for the first time in The Dreamer. Beginning with Time Crystals, Mozzie co-writes the stories.

Those of you who are familiar with White Collar know that Diana is a fearless and tough agent. She's a crack shot, an expert in martial arts, and doesn't mind bending the rules when necessary. So it should come as no surprise that she found much in Lovecraft's work that needed to be updated. When Mozzie became her writing partner, even more changes were introduced. Arkham Files features a diverse cast with many women in leadership roles.
