Destination: Columbia Ghost Story

Columbia Ghost Story begins a few days after the conclusion of The Musicians. As Halloween approaches, the team makes plans to celebrate the successful completion of a case with a costume party. It is not intended to be a Halloween party, but Mozzie makes a discovery in the tunnels under Columbia University that may change their minds.

Warning for spoilers to earlier Crossed Lines stories

Neal and Peter have been friends with Dean and Sam Winchester for several months. Summaries of their previous cases, as well as the supernatural beings which figure in the stories, are in my blog post, The Road So Far.

Electra: Also known as Astrena, Queen of the Stars. The Greek goddess of witches and vampires. Currently masquerading as Electra Stavrou, owner of the Elysian Bookstore in New Haven, Connecticut. Although not a vampire, she is able to establish links to mortals by drinking their blood. Electra can enter the minds of her victims psychically and feed on the creative energy inside. She relies on vampires to harvest blood. Electra had established links to both Neal and Sam, but they are now severed. (See Night Howls on the Hudson for details).

Maia: Elevated by Electra to be one of her "sisters," Maia was born in the first century BC. Her mother was a Druid priestess. When she was a young girl, she was abducted by Electra and taken to Greece. She ascended to the rank of demi-goddess when she came of age. Maia fell in love with Sam and is trying to shed her old ways. She no longer drinks blood, and, as a result, memories of her past life have resurfaced. Maia entered into a pact with the demon Crowley to protect Sam, Dean, Chloe, and their friends. She is attempting to protect her friends from Electra. In Night Howls on the Hudson, Maia became mortal. Electra is only able to elevate mortals to become her handmaidens at the spring equinox. Maia is happy to wait and hopes it never happens.

Thanatos: Electra's younger brother. Thanatos rules over Oblivion a shadowy underworld that is the domain of vampires and witches after they die as well as vengeful spirits. Recently Thanatos succeeded in creating a portal from Oblivion to the upper world. He's currently masquerading as Quint Worland, a computer science student at Columbia University. Quint is a member of SETI. He serves on Mozzie's extraterrestrial slime sub-committee.

Chloe Bishop: Chloe and Dean met in Whispers of the Night and are in a relationship. Chloe has been researching Wicca as background for an upcoming novel. She has a famous ancestor—Bridget Bishop—who was the first person executed for witchcraft in Salem. Chloe's heroine in her novels solves crimes through her knowledge of herbs and potions, and Chloe is determined to make herself an expert, too. She's joined several Wicca covens to advance her knowledge. She is currently working for a publishing house in New York City. In Night Howls on the Hudson, she learned that she is related through Bridget Bishop to a witch who lived in Ireland around 1800, Harriet Beaufort. She also appears to be related to Maia. Maia was as shocked as Chloe by the news. Both Maia and Chloe are descendants of Airmid, an ancient Irish druidess who is famous for her knowledge of herbal lore. Dean is uncomfortable with the thought that Chloe is a witch, but she and Maia are embracing their newfound abilities.
