Cloister of Secrets takes place in November 2005, a few days after the final scene in Columbia Ghost Story. Neal has been working for close to two years at White Collar. He's also enrolled in the graduate program at Columbia University where he's pursuing a doctorate in art history and a master's in visual arts. At Columbia, Neal's best friends are Richard Carlisle and Aidan Phillips.
Neal and Sara have been dating secretly since last August. Only Mozzie is aware of their status and the truth about the Clueless con. Henry is also in a conspiracy. He's enlisted Elizabeth's help in playing matchmakers for Neal and Sara. Richard and Aidan tease Neal about a Constance in his life, but they've yet to discover her real identity. Peter, meanwhile, has made a promise not to interfere in Neal's love life and is determined to abide by it. In a story that has Secrets in the title, you can safely assume those cons and conspiracies will play a major role.
Cloister of Secrets also gives me a chance to revisit one of my favorite museums, The Cloisters. Many of the architectural elements come from French and Spanish medieval buildings. The four French cloisters provide an ideal venue for strategy plotting.
A different type of secret spider web soon ensnares Peter as his team members urge him to assume a new role. Against the backdrop of a case involving a medieval manuscript, Peter must face some dismaying truths about himself.
