Vault Acquisition: Standing Stones

Standing Stones is the ninth Arkham Files acquisition to the library vault at Miskatonic University. It is the sequel to Scorpion Hill and takes place in February 1976.

Warning for spoilers to the earlier stories in the series

The second semester of teaching assignments has begun for Neal and Peter. Henry is now a member of their team and has given them a new name: SCAGR, an acronym for Scholar-Adventurer-Guardian Reprobates. Henry also continues to accept occasional jobs from a Canadian outfit of freelance soldiers of fortune. He remains skeptical that he's a good fit for the academic scene at Arkham. Sara has a temporary assignment at the International Herald Tribune in London. She's currently assigned to a team of investigative journalists tasked with writing an exposé on cults.

Mozzie is now in charge of the lab equipment left behind by the Meropian scientist Pagna Sastri when she returned to her planet's home base. Within the protective shields of Mozzie's lab resides a priceless alien artifact, the armillary sphere. Constructed by the Celaenians to resemble a Renaissance astronomical instrument, the armillary sphere was given a voice when Neal placed the celaenite crystal he'd discovered in ancient Egypt in the heart of the sphere. Mozzie dubbed the alien construct Milly. She is mentoring him in wormhole technology.

Milly is also guiding Neal as his alien abilities strengthen. He is now able to detect the presence of nearby wormholes by the shimmering algolnium radiation they emit. They're not the only things that glow. Peter noticed in the cave at Scorpion Hill that Neal was also emitting radiation. The significance is not yet clear, but there will be much more about it in Standing Stones.
