Chocolate Box 2022: 8 new stories!

The AO3 Chocolate Box authors were revealed today, and now I can finally describe the stories I wrote. This time around I leaned into Original Works, and had a blast inventing new worlds and new characters. In previous years I posted descriptions that included how the stories measured up in terms of diversity, and I'm continuing that tradition again this year.

Here we go, eight new stories!

Fandom: Pride and Prejudice
Title: Second Impressions
Characters: Elizabeth, Jane, Bingley, Mr. Bennet, Darcy
The prompt: Elizabeth & Jane, Jane / Bingley
Premise: Elizabeth tells Jane about what occurred at Lambton, and then Jane indulges in a little matchmaking to bring Elizabeth and Darcy together.
Thoughts: Wow, this story got BY FAR the most hits of any of my Chocolate Box stories this year. The ending, with Mr. Bennet revealed as a romance reader, seemed particularly popular.
Diversity: All of the characters are canonically white and straight. Does not pass the Bechdel test.

Fandom: Emma
Title: Confidante
Characters: Emma, Jane, Mrs. Goddard
The prompt: Jane confides in Emma
Premise: Aro-ace Jane doesn't want to marry Frank, and after she confides in Emma they find an alternate path for Jane.
Thoughts: The trickiest part was getting Jane to open up to Emma.
Diversity: All of the characters are canonically white and straight, but in this version I made Jane aromantic. Passes the Bechdel test.

Fandom: Supernatural
Title: Winging It
Characters: Castiel, Dean, Bobby, unnamed angel
The prompt: Dean / Castiel, where Dean does something different than being a mechanic or bartender after he stops hunting
Premise: Heaven 2.0 is glitchy, and Dean decides to learn physics to solve the issues. Then he earns his wings, because the prompter really likes wingfic and because I really like ducks.
Thoughts: Last year the prompter wrote a marvelous Supernatural - The Good Place crossover for me, and it inspired my direction for this story.
Diversity: The named characters are canonically white men, although Cas was also a woman in canon. Dean is bi for this story, and I'd guess Cas is, too. Does not pass the Bechdel test.

Fandom: Crossover of Good Omens and White Collar
Title: What Fools These Mortals Be
Characters: Aziraphale, Crowley, Neal, Peter
The prompt: Neal as an angel or demon
Premise: Neal was a demon named Alibi, who became human due to the actions of Crowley.
Thoughts: How was Neal able to forge so many artists? By meeting and studying with them over the centuries!
Diversity: The characters are canonically white men. This version of Neal is bisexual. Does not pass the Bechdel test.

Fandom: N/A - Original Work
Title: The Rescue of the Oracle
Characters: Lou, Kei, Vi, Amita, Maddie
The prompt: This was a combination of two prompts from the same requester: spaceship captain / most-wanted stowaway and librarian / linguist
Premise: It's Lou & Kei to the rescue when Amita & Maddie are tricked into assessing a stolen, psychic book.
Thoughts: Lou and Kei have a complicated history, while Amita and Maddie are just starting to fall for each other
Diversity: All named characters are women, and while I don't mention race I did select some character names from non-white cultures. Neither couple is straight. Passes the Bechdel test.

Fandom: N/A - Original Work
Title: So You Want to Marry a Princess
Characters: Princess Naomi, Prithi, and 3 suitors (Derek, Adeola, Hazel)
The prompt: A princess starring in a reality dating show / the show's host
Premise: Prithi and Naomi were school friends, and Prithi wasn't aware of Naomi's feelings for her
Thoughts: The Bachelorette, but much friendlier
Diversity: The named characters include 3 women, 1 man, and 1 non-binary person. There are no straight characters, and while I don't mention race I did select some character names from non-white cultures. Passes the Bechdel test.

Fandom: N/A - Original Work
Title: Like Magic
Characters: Berlinda, Marie
The prompt: Grumpy dress designer / fairy godmother
Premise: A group of fairy godmothers need a fashion designer to update their styles from Cinderella-style ball gowns to something more modern
Thoughts: Inspired by watching too much Project Runway
Diversity: All characters are women, and they are not straight. I did not mention race. Passes the Bechdel test.

Fandom: N/A - Original Work
Title: Who Needs Cinderella?
Characters: Prince, Fairy Godmother
The prompt: prince / fairy godmother
Premise: A fairy godmother seduces a prince as part of a political alliance
Thoughts: The most explicit of this year's crop of stories, which admittedly isn't very explicit.
Diversity: I didn't mention race, and I implied that the prince is bisexual. Does not pass the Bechdel test.
