A Brighter Future

A reader recently asked if it was necessary to read my Crossed Lines and Arkham Files series in order to follow the plots in my Caffrey Conversation stories. The short answer is no. Any key events in the other series are always summarized in the Caffrey Conversation stories so you won't feel like you're missing out.

Readers of Arkham Files and Crossed Lines get the equivalent of bonus stories. Neither series is rooted in horror. There are elements of urban fantasy and science fiction but the worlds portrayed are much more about found families than monsters.

Caffrey Conversation was born out of a desire to create a brighter, more hopeful future than canon provided for the White Collar characters. I've traveled the same route with the worlds of Supernatural and the Cthulhu Mythos. Both Crossed Lines and Arkham Files start with minimal gore content and evolve into much more optimistic and hopeful visions than would exist in canon. They're worlds where even a snarky demon like Crowley is given a second chance to have family ties and friendships.

I find it empowering to take characters with bleak canon futures and transform their trajectories into something much happier. The time I spend in their alternate realities acts as a pressure relief valve for the many truly horrific events occurring in the real world.
