Celebration Time for Caffrey Conversation!

On October 10, 2013, Penna posted Caffrey Conversation. Happy Tenth Anniversary, Caffrey Conversation, and thank you, Penna, for ten years of storytelling magic!

Caffrey Conversation is my favorite example of the power comments can have on a writer. When Penna posted the story, she didn't intend to write a series. The ending of the prequel was bittersweet since Neal's chance to change the direction of his life was sabotaged by bad luck and his flight instinct. The original ending meshes well with the opening episode of White Collar. Among the many enthusiastic comments were several who hoped she'd consider writing an alternate ending where Neal accepts Peter's offer. Penna posted that happy ending shortly afterward as ideas started to flow for a sequel. And the rest, as they say, is history. Caffrey Conversation sparked a series that at last count includes 73 works and close to three million words. Both Penna and I continue to draw ideas from events and concepts featured in that initial story.

This October 23, I'll post Mousetrap, the 74th story in the series. Henry says it's only fitting he should be featured in a work posted on Caffrey Conversation's 10th anniversary. After all, isn't he the series' most popular original character? All those positive comments—and he treasures every one of them—must be right. Henry has been in the series from the very first story. When Penna conceived the initial plot, he was a member of the cast. Perhaps we have Henry to thank for her continuing the series. It would have been a shame to stop with the first story where in the original version, he didn't make an appearance.
