Candy Hearts 2023: 5 new stories!

For several years I've written stories for the annual Chocolate Box exchange. The exchange moderators needed to skip this year, and instead a new Candy Hearts exchange took its place. The prompts were excellent, inspiring me to write five stories. In previous years I posted descriptions that included how the stories measured up in terms of diversity, and I'm continuing that tradition again this year.

Here we go, five new stories!

Fandom: Schitt's Creek
Title: Enchiladas
Characters: David, Patrick, Stevie, Twyla, Alexis, Moira
The prompt: more scenes with this ensemble cast, such as when David and his mother Moira tried cooking enchiladas from what she claimed was her mother's recipe, or when David and Moira got drunk sampling wine.
Premise: Alexis arranges for her mother Moira to appear on a cooking show to make enchiladas. David's husband Patrick and their friend Stevie realize how bad that could be, and they convince David to join her on the show.
Thoughts: This was my first time writing in the Schitt's Creek fandom, and I hope it won't be the last, because I adore the humor.
Diversity: All of the characters are white. David and Patrick aren't straight. Does not pass the Bechdel test.

Fandom: Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
Title: Shakespeare for SecUnits
Characters: Murderbot, ART, ART's crew, Dr Mensah
The prompt: Murderbot relaxes by consuming media like soapy serials, and enjoyed watching live theater on Dr Mensah's home planet. How would it react to being in a play?
Premise: Dr. Mensah decides to produce a modernized version of Hamlet, and she asks Murderbot to collaborate on the script.
Thoughts: Murderbot and ART have distinctive voices, which makes writing them a joy.
Diversity: Murderbot's race is never mentioned in canon; it is canonically genderless and asexual. Dr. Mensah is black. Does not pass the Bechdel test.

Fandom: Crossover of Leverage and White Collar
Title: The Fix-It Job
Characters: Parker, Sophie, Eliot, Hardison, Nate, Neal, Mozzie, Peter, Elizabeth, June, Sara, Keller
The prompt: Fix the White Collar series finale
Premise: When June realizes that Neal is going to fake his death, she reaches out to the Leverage crew to find another option for him to elude the Pink Panthers. The result is a con to convince the Pink Panthers that Mozzie has a de-aging formula. What he actually has is even more unbelievable.
Thoughts: This would be fun to revisit one day with more details of what changed after the con.
Diversity: Mix of white and black characters who are canonically straight. Does not pass the Bechdel test.

Fandom: N/A - Original Work
Title: It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's... My Neighbor?
Characters: Hannah, Glinda, Edna, Felicity
The prompt: A bored telecommuter finds love with the superhero next door
Premise: When Hannah starts working from home, she realizes that she's in a neighborhood filled with superheroes, and the one next door is very hot.
Thoughts: My first superhero story! Glinda's bubble skills are inspired by good witch in The Wizard of Oz
Diversity: All characters with speaking roles are women, and I don't specify their races. Neither couple is straight. Hannah is bisexual and her love interest is another woman. Passes the Bechdel test.

Fandom: N/A - Original Work
Title: Schrödinger's Cat
Characters: Ada, Zora, cat
The prompt: A cat explores a demon's realm
Premise: Schrödinger's Cat ends up in Ada's realm and then brings more cats. An angel tries to collect the cats to take them back where they came from.
Thoughts: This was a gift to Silbrith! She had gifted me with a story a while ago, and I wanted to return the favor.
Diversity: Both characters with speaking roles are women. Their race and orientation aren't mentioned. Passes the Bechdel test.
