Holiday Stories 2022

Writing holiday-themed stories for Caffrey Conversation is an annual tradition for Penna and me. I've included winter holiday celebrations in many of my longer stories, and for the past several years, Penna has written a special story to post in December. This year, my story Breakaway is a warm-up act for her story Movie Night which is set during the 2006 winter holiday. Breakaway is already published. Movie Movie will be posted later this month. A list of Caffrey Conversation stories for the winter holidays is in our blog post: Holidays with the Caffrey Conversation crew.

For the first time, our holiday stories for 2022 aren't limited to Caffrey Conversation. Both of us are participating in the Yuletide gift exchange for rare fandoms. To qualify, the fandom must have less than a thousand stories in Archive of Our Own and FanFiction combined. The exchange has been around since 2003. On December 25, the stories are published anonymously at which time anyone can browse the collection. The works are sorted by fandom. On January 1, the authors are revealed. Participating in the exchange has been a great experience, and I was excited to be familiar with many of the nominated works. The variety is astonishing—among the more unusual selections are commercials, divination cards, and podcasts. In a later post, we'll reveal which stories we wrote.

I also wrote a holiday story for the Ghostnet series of urban fantasies. The title is Grinch in the Night. A vandal is making a hash of outdoor holiday decorations. Just who is this Grinch of a mischief-maker? Will the Winter Solstice celebration escape unscathed? Like the other Ghostnet stories, it's a one-chapter treat.

Penna and I wish you a joyous holiday however you celebrate!
