On December 7, I'll post my final Caffrey Conversation story of the year. The title is Breakaway. For Peter, it's been a frustrating couple of months since he and Neal transitioned to new jobs. Neal is now working at his brother Henry's company, Winston-Winslow. Peter is the section head of Organized Crime at the Bureau. The two still get together frequently but Peter hasn't participated in Neal's adventures with the Winchesters nor could he be informed about all the details of the con Neal ran shortly before his wedding.
We're nearing the end of 2006 in Caffrey Conversation. It's been a momentous year for Neal. He became a multi-millionaire thanks to his discovery of a lost painting by Raphael. He and Sara were married in mid-November, and they're now renovating the top floor of June's mansion to be their new home. In comparison, Peter and El haven't seen as many changes in their lives. Their time is coming, though, and it starts in Breakaway. We'll close the year in Caffrey Conversation with Penna's holiday story, Move Night.
On other fronts, both of us are participating in the Yuletide story exchange. On December 9, I'll post Fretwork, the latest adventure in the Six-Crossed Knot series. Later in the month, I plan to post a Ghostnet story featuring the Grinch.
Ring In the New
What will 2023—the Year of the Giraffe—be like? When our plot bunnies are adorable raffies with long eyelashes, I predict a particularly productive year in storytelling. Already a few raffies are gamboling on the horizon:
Caffrey Conversation: In 2023, a leopard will be unleashed, and Mozzie will assume not just one but two new roles. Neal and Sara settle into their new apartment in the clouds, but Neal continues the long con he's been running since he joined the FBI with a few modifications. Some of the most exciting developments will concern Peter and Elizabeth.
Crossed Lines: Crowley can't wait to show off his new storyline, even if Castiel is a big factor in it. Sam and Dean don't know about Castiel yet, but they will by the end of the year. The fact that Crowley likes to call Castiel a giraffe implies supernatural forces might have been involved in our selection of this year's animal.
Arkham Files: Eric's role will be expanded as contamination with other worlds becomes more pronounced. Readers of Caffrey Conversation know that New York Neal has long held a dream for Arkham Neal. Will this be the year he finally gets his wish?
Past writing years: 2021: Year of the Cat. 2020: Year of the Dragon. 2019: Year of the Penguin.
