Glass Angels is the ninth story in my Crossed Lines series. The story begins a day after the conclusion of Silent Planet in the Caffrey Conversation series, but it's not necessary to read that story first. Neal's college friends are featured in this tale of a student film project where the lines between fictitious and real supernatural events are crossed many times over.
Warning for minor spoilers to earlier Crossed Lines stories
As the story opens, the second semester of Neal's second year at Columbia University has just started. In addition to working at White Collar, Neal is in the visual arts and art history programs at Columbia. Sara Ellis, his girlfriend, works as an insurance investigator for Sterling-Bosch in London.
Aidan Phillips, a fellow grad student in the visual arts program, is an aspiring filmmaker. Two of his earlier films have already been featured in my stories: Yellowface, the Masked Avenger and Pirates from Beyond. His latest project, Glass Angels, was inspired by a visit last fall to Electra Stavrou's house in New Haven, Connecticut. Aidan has enlisted the help of his friends as well as his fiancée Keiko to make the film. Among those assisting are Richard Carlisle and his partner Travis Miller. Travis is a tech expert at White Collar. Richard is employed as a concept artist for a video game developer. Evenings he works on his master's in visual arts.
New Haven has become a familiar place to Dean and Sam Winchester since their girlfriends live there. Maia has invited Chloe to stay with her in her cottage. The women discovered that they share a common distant ancestor and are both developing their talents in witchcraft. Dean and Sam's friend Bobby has made Morristown, New Jersey his temporary base of operations. For the past several months the Winchesters have been trying to track down the ancient Greek goddess Astrena, not suspecting that they've already met her.
Readers know that Astrena has disguised herself as Electra Stavrou. She erased Maia's memories of her life as Astrena's handmaiden in a previous story. Electra has been salivating at the prospect of hosting Neal and his friends at her house since she extended the invitation in Columbia Ghost Story. Her time has come.
Summaries of the previous stories, as well as profiles of the supernatural beings, are in my blog post, The Road So Far.
